3-Factor Authentication (3FA)

There are three different concepts to verify the identity of a physical person:

  • Something the person has (token, credit card, passport);
  • Something the person knows (secret phrase, password, PIN-code)
  • Something the person characterizes (physical or behavioral biometric feature)

The strength of an authentication depends on the number of factors checked in the process.

Simple password verification is a 1-factor system today considered as not secure. Combining a PIN-code with an identity token result in a 2-factor system, which is more secure. Highest security 3-factor systems all incorporate biometrics to provide the "someone you are"-factor.

The AXSionics solution provides up to a 3-factor authentication. However, AXSionics focuses on convenient use of technology by combining the device with biometrics, which is requested in most of the use cases.
